PORT DISCOVERY
An AR interactive designed to encourage imaginative and collaborative play.
I collaborated with exhibit design firm Quatrefoil Associates to develop an interactive for their children’s theatre exhibit at Port Discover Museum in Baltimore. The interactive was called “Get into Character”, and functioned as a series of vanity style screens where children could try on Augmented Reality costumes and face filters.

Visual Development
The design for the project was stylized, graphic, and kid friendly. It utilized flat colors and illustrative linework to evoke styles of animated movies and children’s books. Integrating linework and flat colors into the textures for the 3D AR components was an iterative and explorative process, which involved building shaders, hand painting textures, and translating 2D linework into 3D space.
My role was to create AR filters or “costumes” that corresponded to themes chosen by the client- Beach, Forest, and Outer Space. After kids had selected which facial filter they wanted to try on, they could select a graphic background that corresponded to the themes as well, allowing them to mix and match filters with backgrounds and develop their own narratives around them.
I created mood-boards and visual development sketches based on visual language established by Graphic Designer Auburn Leigh, and then translated these sketches into 3d models for the interactive filters in this snapchat-esque application.
